Bob Dylan has been in my life as a huge cultural cornerstone since I was a kid... and the memory of that lasting discovery inspired my poem "Bob", which I was delighted to contribute to Liamy McNally's book ‘Happy Birthday Mister Bob’ which was published as a tribute to Bob Dylan on his 80th birthday.
I decided to take the poem two steps further, namely, to translate it and then put music to it... just finished it this morning! So here it is.... my poem "Bob" becomes my song ‘Go Deo (Forever)’
lyrics
Go Deo (Forever)
Solas i m’óige, ón chéad lasair riamh,
Focail á mbreacadh i gcoipleabhar le mo thaobh,
Déagóir faoi gheasa, filiocht agus ceol,
Teocht i mo chroí, gaoth i mo sheol.
Réabhlóid gan bhrat, ach an daonnacht uilig,
Ag tochas mo cheann is ag cuimilt mo smig,
Fós faoi do chomaoin, fite i do dhraíocht,
Go maire do spiorad is go maire do ríocht...
Go deo.
Light of my youth, from the first ever ray,
Notes in a notebook, beside me to stay,
Under your spell, your musical tale,
Heat in my bones, wind in my sail
No flags flying, just all human kin,
Scratching my head, stroking my chin,
Still in your thrall, the magic comes in,
May your spirit soar and your kingdom win,
Forever
Solas i m’óige, ón chéad lasair riamh,
Focail á mbreacadh i gcoipleabhar le mo thaobh,
Déagóir faoi gheasa, filiocht agus ceol,
Teocht i mo chroí, gaoth i mo sheol.
Réabhlóid gan bhrat, ach an daonnacht uilig,
Ag tochas mo cheann is ag cuimilt mo smig,
Fós faoi do chomaoin, fite i do dhraíocht,
Go maire do spiorad is go maire do ríocht...
Go deo.

Wow I did'nt realize this band was still togeather now over 35 years. Their album from 1993 is an all time favorite of mine "Songs From The Rain". The singer has a beautiful soulful style and the band lays down some wonderful music. Very uplifting and spiritual and i am not a spiritual person. The band is from Ireland and have a Van Morrison vibe. lloydd
