I wrote this in Paris with the wonderful Australian singer songwriter Tanya Gordon. She contacted me on MySpace, (remember that!) when she was spending time in Paris with her husband, we met up, wrote and recorded City Of Love, all in one day... and that original recording is the version that appears on Bougainvillea!
lyrics
City of Love
Well I was free, and it was easy,
In the bars of the Marais,
I wasn't looking out for you
But love swept us both away
Honey in your kisses
The stars hung up above
The lights were shining bright
In the City of Love.
Well I been drawn, and I've been quartered,
Taken more than my fair share,
Bent over double til I couldn't stand,
Still your convinced that I don't care.
You turned on the honeymoon,
And the stars fell from up above
And the lights have all gone out now
In the City of Love.
In the City of Love, you were like a drug
In the City of Love, you were like a drug.
Born a peacemaker,
Never let the romance die,
I've long enough to know better,
Will I live long enough to know why, to know why
In the City of Love
In the City of Love
Jump the gun, you come undone,
But always give love a shot,
And if the blood pours from the wounds,
Just give it all you've got.
Cos there's honey in your kisses
Stars hang up above
You still keep on believing
In the City of Love.
In the City of Love, you were like a drug
In the City of Love, you were like a drug
In the City of Love, you were like a drug.
In the City of Love
In the City of Love
In the City of Love

When Fiachna found himself holed up in Paris between 2006 and 2011, he recorded his first solo album Bougainvillea in a one-
bedroom apartment near Montmartre… check out the gentle beauty of ‘Ghosts’ or ‘City Of Love’ and pour yourself something sweet for the sailor’s love lament of ‘Bottle Of Rum’....more
Wow I did'nt realize this band was still togeather now over 35 years. Their album from 1993 is an all time favorite of mine "Songs From The Rain". The singer has a beautiful soulful style and the band lays down some wonderful music. Very uplifting and spiritual and i am not a spiritual person. The band is from Ireland and have a Van Morrison vibe. lloydd
A wonderful album. I hear hints of Jeff Buckley, The Beatles and Rufus Wainright in his songwriting. Not just cleverly written songs, but with feeling. And the strings are stunning too. jane willow
